The operator and its route
The Neue Pellwormer Dampfschiffahrts GmbH, NPDG for short, is the smallest operator in this region and the most important one for Pellworm: it sails the only connection that ties the island to the mainland all year and with vehicles.
The route
From Nordstrand, more precisely from the Strucklahnungshörn jetty on the western edge of the peninsula, to Pellworm. Thirty-five minutes at sea, fixed departure times, every day of the year. In high season up to six departures per direction stand in the schedule, in the winter half-year three to five.
Because Nordstrand is connected to the mainland by a causeway, you drive right to the jetty. For Pellworm this chain of causeway and short crossing is the normal way in, not the exception.
The ship
In service is the MS Pellworm I, a car ferry that has worked the route since 1997. It carries vehicles, bicycles and freight. If you are crossing with a car, register both the outward and the return sailing with the operator in advance - deck space is limited, and individual sailings fill up in high season.
Where the NPDG fits in
Three operators share North Frisia, with clearly separated jobs. The Wyker Dampfschiffs-Reederei sails from Dagebüll to Föhr and Amrum and supplies the halligen from Schlüttsiel. Adler-Schiffe links the islands with one another in the summer half-year. And the NPDG keeps Pellworm on the network, in January too.

Can I take my car?+
Yes. The MS Pellworm I is a car ferry - in the North Frisian Wadden Sea that is, alongside the W.D.R. ships from Dagebüll, the only way to bring a vehicle to an island. Register the crossing with the operator in advance, especially in high season.
Is the NPDG part of Adler-Schiffe?+
No. The Neue Pellwormer Dampfschiffahrts GmbH is an independent company with one route. Adler-Schiffe calls at Pellworm on its Wadden Sea line in the summer half-year; that is a different connection with a different ticket.
