Ferry Dagebüll - Amrum

Getting there and the Dagebüll terminal

The car ferries of the W.D.R. dock at Dagebüll mole, and the Adler Rüm Hart run by Adler-Schiffe at pier 2 of the same mole. The Dagebüll Mole railway stop is right at the ferry pier; the neg trains from Niebüll are timed to the ferry departures, Niebüll connects to InterCity and regional trains, and a Deutsche Bahn ticket is valid straight through to Amrum. If your car stays on the mainland, it goes in the island car park, which has short-stay, day and multi-day spaces - take a parking ticket on the way in and keep it until you leave. A free shuttle bus runs to the pier, or it's about a ten-minute walk. Day trippers park free on the harbour moles to the left of pier 3.

Check-in and departure

With the W.D.R., be ready to load with your vehicle at least 15 minutes before your booked departure, in the assigned lane on the mole; arrive later and you lose your reservation, boarding only if space remains. You need your vehicle registration document, or the vehicle won't be carried. Foot passengers can board right up to the last minute before departure, and on most sailings scan their own ticket at the side entrance in Dagebüll. With Adler-Schiffe, be at the ship 15 minutes before departure; boarding closes five minutes before it casts off, and your ticket on your phone is enough. The Rüm Hart sails from 28 March to 31 October 2026, not on Mondays in spring, and not on Sundays or Mondays in the second half of October.

On board

The W.D.R. runs the double-ended ferries Uthlande, Schleswig-Holstein and Norderaue - each carrying 1,200 passengers and 75 cars - plus the Nordfriesland. On board: lounges with panoramic windows, a sun deck, a self-service bistro on the lounge deck, and a children's area with a ball pit. On Schleswig-Holstein and Uthlande, the car deck, dining area and sun deck are wheelchair-accessible. The Adler Rüm Hart catamaran (built 2019, 250 passengers in summer) belongs to the W.D.R. and sails under charter for Adler-Schiffe; it's wheelchair-accessible and has catering on board.

Vehicles, bikes and pets

Cars, motorhomes, motorbikes and trailers only travel with the W.D.R. Fares are charged by vehicle length, a trailer separately from the towing vehicle, and motorhomes are not charged at lorry rates. Book your vehicle space early, especially in peak season. Bicycles need their own ticket with the W.D.R. and wait at the mole 15 minutes before departure; they lean against each other during the crossing, and the operator isn't liable for damage. Folded folding bikes and dogs on a lead travel free. On the Rüm Hart, Adler-Schiffe carries only a limited number of bikes and only with advance booking, and dogs for a fee; large dogs must wear a muzzle.

Arrival in Wittdün and onward travel

Both ships arrive at the ferry pier in Wittdün at the southern tip of Amrum (Hafen Wittdün, Fähranleger, 25946 Wittdün). Right at the pier there's a bike hire, and in summer the island bus runs every half hour to the villages. In the summer half of the year, Wittdün is also the transfer port for Adler-Schiffe sailings to Sylt, Hooge and Heligoland - all connections from Amrum are listed on the island page.

Tickets and fares

The W.D.R. sells single and return tickets, with returns valid for two months; children aged 6 to 14 pay a reduced fare, and under-sixes travel free. Rebooking is free, as is cancelling before the travel date, with refunds within 14 days; the resident fare has a cancellation deadline with a fee. Online you pay by credit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, and by direct debit for vehicle bookings. Adler-Schiffe gives a discount for online booking; if you already have a W.D.R. ticket for Amrum - Dagebüll, you can use it on board the Rüm Hart for a surcharge. At the Adler ticket counter, cash, credit card and debit card are accepted, and cancellations are handled by email with a pro-rata charge depending on timing.
