The southern feeder port into the North Frisian Wadden Sea - connections, crossing times and operating season

Connections from Nordstrand

Every route starting at Nordstrand. All of them are operated by Adler-Schiffe and therefore appear in the timetable during the summer half-year only.

Ferries from Nordstrand

Nordstrand is the southern gateway into the North Frisian Wadden Sea. Linked to the mainland by a causeway, the port is reachable by vehicle - and from late March to early November it is a starting point of the Adler-Schiffe line.

To Hallig Hooge

Sixty-two to 70 minutes with the MS Adler-Express, two departures per operating day. This is the main connection from Nordstrand.

To Amrum and Hörnum

To Amrum it is about an hour and a half, to Hörnum on Sylt two and a half. Both routes are sailed by the same MS Adler-Express on its Wadden Sea line.

To Heligoland and Föhr: with a change

Adler-Schiffe sells through-tickets from Nordstrand to Heligoland (a good three hours) and to Föhr (about two and a half hours). Both involve a change of vessel; the Heligoland sailing appears in the 2026 schedule until 21 October.

The seasonal caveat

As at Hörnum: between early November and late March no departure from Nordstrand appears in the timetable. If you want to reach the Wadden Sea year-round, plan via Dagebüll.

FAQ

Which destinations can I reach from Nordstrand?+

In the summer half-year Hooge in a good hour, Amrum in about an hour and a half, Hörnum on Sylt in two and a half hours and Heligoland in a good three hours. Sailings to Föhr involve a change of vessel.

Do ships leave Nordstrand in winter as well?+

Not on the lines listed here: they belong to the Adler-Schiffe network, which ends on 1 November 2026. The short ferry to Pellworm runs independently of it.

Is there a ferry from Nordstrand to Pellworm?+

Yes, and it is the shortest connection to Pellworm. It is not part of the Adler-Schiffe network and therefore not on the map on this page - current departures are posted at the pier or available from the operator.

Is Nordstrand an island?+

Nordstrand is linked to the mainland by a causeway and is therefore reachable by vehicle. For ferry planning Nordstrand counts as a departure port, not a destination - like Dagebüll.

How do I get to Nordstrand?+

By car across the causeway from the North Frisian mainland coast - no ferry needed for that. The operator can advise on parking at the pier.
